Burruss Elementary and MCAA place at 4th Annual Regional Reading Bowl

A.L. Burruss Elementary and the Marietta Center for Advanced Academics (MCAA) competed at the 4th Annual Regional Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl. A.L. Burruss placed 3rd with 360 points after 6 intensive rounds of questions on 15 different novels that students had read for the competition. MCAA placed 4th with 350 points.

“The Marietta City Schools teams once again showed that Readers are Leaders,” stated Julie King, principal of A.L. Burruss Elementary. “We are very proud of our coach, Carla Wallace (MILE teacher), and our team members.”

The top two finalists from the district Marietta Reads! Reading Bowl represented Marietta City Schools’ elementary division at the competition held Feb. 9 at Pickens County Middle School.
The Marietta Sixth Grade Academy and Marietta Middle School represented the middle school division at the event.

“Every year, for the past four years, our students compete in the Marietta Reads! Reading Bowl and the Regional Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl,” said Debra Pickett, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. “These contests test our students’ reading comprehension and
retention skills.”
